Provo, UT—Elder Jeffrey R. Holland was involved in a life-or-death incident at BYU’s Marriott Center during his controversial pro-family address given to the school’s faculty and staff.

Elder Holland arrived at the event dressed in colonial attire and brandishing a musket. Halfway through his talk, Elder Holland’s antique firearm went off prematurely, injuring an audience member in the front row. The man, who wishes to remain anonymous, was rushed to the hospital for his injuries, and after hours of complicated surgery seems to be making a miraculous recovery.

Many have criticized the Apostle’s decision to use an 18th century weapon during his talk. The incident looked especially bad for the senior church leader, given that the injured attendee turned out to be a queer.
